Home Exercise Equipment Choices

Although this blog is all about treadmills and how the can help you keep fit you will know that there are a million and one ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and the important thing is to find the right one for you. Whether you choose home exercise equipment, a gym membership or a simple pair of running shoes, the important thing is that you actually do something (anything!) to get your body moving and your heart rate elevated. I use a treadmill because that's what I'm used to and what enjoy and it allows me to continue to train when the weather gets too bad to venture out onto the roads. If you live somewhere with a great year-round climate then you might prefer to give any sort of indoor exercise a miss, I know I would if I could. Alas, I have to live in a country where Winter means staying indoors so home exercise machines are essential.

Although I use an exercise treadmill I also have a lot of time for the other devices on the market. Indoor rowing machines provide an excellent workout if you can handle the intensity but they are a bit too much like torture for me. If that's your thing then the rower might be your perfect health inducing companion.

Elliptical trainers are another one that I particularly like and much more relaxed than the rower, a great choice for someone looking to get fit in a sedate manner. They are also easier on the joints when compared to running on a treadmill so you might want to check them out if you are getting a bit older and don't want to give your body to much of a pounding.

Pick up a treadmill mat

If you're using a treadmill in your home then you'll want to get a mat to go underneath your machine. Treadmill mats aren't cheap at around $50 a go but they will pay for themselves over the years as they protect your carpets from wear and tear. Not only that but one of these will help keep dirt and dust levels down around your device giving it a longer life.

You might think that you can do without a mat if you use your machine on a laminate flooring but even in these circumstances it can be useful to protect the floor from marking and to stop slippage.

With a treadmill mat usually coming with a 5 year warranty you can be sure that the initial outlay will be well worth it in the long run.
